NINO CHIRICO MSC

PhD Candidate

Cardiac regenerative medicine | iPSC-technology | Biomaterials

I studied biomedical engineer in Politecnico di Milano and started my Ph.D. as part of the RESCUE co-fund program at the University Medical Center, Utrecht. My supervisors are Assistant Professor Alain van Mil and Professor Joost Sluijter. My main interests are tissue engineering for cardiac regeneration and interaction between cells and micro-environment. We envision developing a cardiac patch with a clinically relevant size that supports the heart after myocardial infarct. To achieve this, we use iPS-derived cardiac cells and several biomaterials to mimic the formation of the native cardiac tissue structures and ensure proper tissue integration.
