CLARA LABONIA
PhD candidate
Research: Currently working on nanoparticle delivery to the heart to induce cardiac tissue regeneration after ischemia
Clara Labonia is an Argentinian and Italian MD., MSc. She is currently working on nanoparticle delivery to the heart to induce cardiac tissue regeneration after ischemia for her Ph.D.
While pursuing her medical degree, she has worked for four years on basic research at the Cardiovascular Physiopathology Institute at her University (University of Buenos Aires), where she got experience in cardiac and vascular physiology and pathology. On a daily basis, she has closely collaborated to study the cardiac function and histology by using the isolated perfused heart assay and inducing different types of stimulation, such as electric and pharmacological stimulation or even cycles of global ischemia.
While doing her Master in Biomedical Sciences in Germany, she did an internship for five months at the Laboratory for Tissue Replacement, Regeneration & Neogenesis (G.E.R.N. in Freiburg), and did her Master Thesis in characterizing bio-printed tissue constructs emulating pre-vascular structures, at the Microfluidics Department of the Institute of Microsystems Technology (IMTEK) of Freiburg, in collaboration with the Freiburg University Medical Centre.
As an MD., Clara is familiar with daily clinical needs, human physiology and cellular culture manipulation. Her next goal is to be involved in the medical industry to improve patient outcomes."
